Hyundai Sime Darby Malaysia have been considering to introduce an estate
version of the highly successful Sonata sedan. Known as the i40
overseas, despite its similarities to the Sonata sedan, the i40 is a
more European focused product, where consumers see estates as a popular
utility / recreational vehicle. The i40 is designed at Hyundai’s R&D
headquarters in Rüsselsheim, Germany. The Sonata sedan in comparison,
is designed to primarily appeal to Asian and American buyers, and was
styled at Hyundai's design studio in Irvine, California.
