The next Mitshubishi features a turbocharged 2.0-liter gasoline engine mated to some derivation of the electric motor found in the hot new Mitsubishi i-MiEV plug-in electric. Expect upwards of a combined 350 horsepower and far better efficiency than the current 2011 Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution’s 17 mpg city/23 mpg highway.
The replacement model for the 2013 Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution will get a hybrid powertrain and is set to rival the almighty Nissan GT-R. The new Evo will not be as we now know it; instead, it will be offered in either a 500hp plug-in hybrid (PHEV).
An Interview report adds the powertrain will pull this high performance car from 0 to 60 mph in just 5 seconds. Also known that there will be adoptions from PX-MEV concept revealed in 2009 Tokyo Auto show, so deductions goes to 1.6 liter gasoline engines mated with electric hybrid motors, which will receive power from lithium-ion batteries.
The next-generation Lancer Evolution will likely take styling inspiration from the Concept-RA shown at Detroit Motor Show in 2008 and if the market shows positive interest towards the upcoming Lancer PHEV hybrid - which will have a frugal fuel economy figure of 1.9-litre per 100km - then the doors will be further opened for a new Evo.
